Ruben Amorim has spoken out on Marcus Rashford's future after the Manchester United star admitted he is 'ready for a new challenge'.

Rashford was dropped from Amorim's squad for Sunday's derby clash against Manchester City, which Man United won 2-1.

Speaking after the game, Amorim revealed the 'real reason' behind his selection decision, confirming there no disciplinary issues behind his call.

Rashford watched the game at home and took to social media to share a picture of his side's celebrations.

He has since delivered a bombshell interview, revealing he is 'ready for a new challenge' amid reports claiming the club would be open to offers for their academy graduate.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Man United's Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham on Thursday, Amorim suggests he'd be happy to keep Rashford at Old Trafford.

"We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple and we will try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past," he said. "This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level... I just want to help Marcus."

On Rashford claiming he needs a new challenge, Amorim added: "He is right. We have here a new challenge, the biggest in football, we are in a difficult situation. I hope all my players are ready."

He continued: "This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus."

Asked whether Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho will play against Spurs, Amorim replied: "We have one more training but it’s the same as the other players. If they train well, then I have to make a choice. We’ll see at the end of training - I expect the best of each player every day so we will see after training."

Amorim also revealed that he has not spoken to Rashford, saying: "No [I've not spoken to Rashford yet]. We gave a day off to the lads. He's our player and he's ready for the next game."

Rashford has spent his entire career at Man United, having graduated from the club's youth academy.

He made his senior debut back in February 2016 and has gone onto make 426 appearances, scoring 138 goals.

He's helped his team win two FA Cups, two EFL Cups and the Europa League.

This season, Rashford has played 24 games across all competitions, scoring seven goals.

He's struggled for form and consistency since bagging 30 goals in the 2022/23 campaign.
