Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has spoken out after he was dropped for his side's incredible comeback victory over local rivals Manchester City.

Despite an opening goal from City defender Josko Gvardiol was ruled out by two quickfire goals at the end of the match from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, securing a 2-1 win for United.

But the drama started before the match as United pair Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were both dropped from the United matchday squad.

And just seconds after the full-time whistle, Rashford has finally spoken out to react to missing out on the match.

Writing on Instagram, Rashford posted a photo of him watching the match at home alongside the caption: "Yesssssssss! Love it lads."

The winger was expected to be included in the squad, after scoring three goals in four Premier League appearances under new manager Ruben Amorim.

However, despite being available for selection, this was not the case as Amorim decided not to include him either in the starting lineup or on the bench.

Explaining his decision, Amorim told Sky Sports: "We try to evaluate everything training performance, game performances, engagement with teammates, push their teammates up. Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players. It is my selection. Simple.

“I don’t want to send a message it is simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everybody understands my decision and I have to choose. It is simple selection."

He added: "Of course the context is difficult because we have to win games and we have a difficult situation now. I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I decide.

"There is a communication after the last training. They are alright. They had training this morning and I was there. They trained really well."

Instead of Rashford and Garnacho, Mason Mount and Diallo started as the wingers for United and, white Mount was forced off the pitch early, Diallo was the star of the match after winning the penalty to level the match and scoring the winning goal minutes later.
