Manchester United fans were left baffled during the first half of the derby against Manchester City after a damning graphic emerged on-screen.

Ruben Amorim's side started the game brightly at Old Trafford, with Alejandro Garnacho winning a free kick inside the first minute on the edge of the area.

Garnacho then fluffed a chance later in the half though was unsighted, before Patrick Dorgu fired an effort high and wide from the left flank.

But midway through the first 45 minutes, Sky Sports posted an average position graphic for United.

Garnacho was positioned comfortably further up the pitch than his team-mates, but it was the positioning of Hojlund that caught the eye of fans.

The Denmark striker's average position was as far back as defensive midfield, and only narrowly in front of Casemiro.

Minutes after the graphic appeared, United had four players in the area on a counter-attack - but Hojlund was not among them.

And while the aim was clearly for Hojlund to drop deeper in order to receive the ball, fans were in disbelief that he was positioned so far back.

One wrote: "Why is Hojlund's average position in our own half? Get up there so we can break better with you being there than everything landing to Garnacho."

Another said: "Hojlund's average position is next to Casemiro."

And a third joked: "Hojlund's average position is killing me..."

The score remained 0-0 at half-time, with Amorim's side having had the better of the few chances that were on offer at Old Trafford.

A win - or even a draw - for United would take them up to 13th in the Premier League table, while victory for City would take them back into the top four and the automatic Champions League qualification places.
