Kobbie Mainoo outlined his preferred plan for the upcoming season in a meeting with Manchester United chiefs on Thursday, although it appears they both have different ideas.
Not so long ago, Mainoo was considered the future of United's midfield for years to come.
He enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Erik ten Hag, helped the club win an unprecedented FA Cup, and was called up to play for England at the Euros after playing such a prominent role at Old Trafford.
But things have changed in recent months. In fact, after struggling to nail down regular first-team minutes since the arrival of Ruben Amorim in November, his time at United is now uncertain.

The 20-year-old was demoted from first choice to substitute on his return from injury in December and found a starting spot hard to come by, although he did start against Grimsby this week after being left out against Arsenal and Fulham.

Mainoo, meanwhile, is determined to play regular first-team football, and expressed that desire in a meeting with chiefs on Thursday.
He informed United of his desire to leave on loan before the window slams shut, according to The Athletic, who suggest the midfielder 'made clear' his wish to leave temporarily to pick up consistent minutes ahead of next summer's World Cup.

It must be noted that while Mainoo believes his current situation does not provide the opportunity to develop his career, he has 'no intention' of severing ties with United at this moment in time.
United, meanwhile, have made their feelings clear. The club will not sanction a loan move this summer and expect him to stay and fight for his place. They also expressed how much they value him.
Mainoo is attracting interest from clubs around Europe
Chelsea are long-term admirers and are currently one of the favourites to make a transfer happen, while Real Madrid and local rivals Atletico are said to be monitoring his situation before the window slams shut on September 1.

Mainoo, meanwhile, is thought to prefer a move to the continent over a Premier League stay. Thoughts on his future? Let us know in the comments.
