Man Utd confirm extent of Amad Diallo injury as absence revealed

Amad is injured.

Manchester United have revealed that Amad Diallo is set to miss the first part of the Premier League season through injury.

The winger suffered a knee injury during United's pre-season friendly win over Arsenal in the United States, and has played no further part in their Premier League preparations up to this point.

The Ivorian returned to Old Trafford at the beginning of the campaign following a successful loan spell at Sunderland, where he was one of the Championship stars of the season.

Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray spoke of his desire to bring Amad back to the Stadium of Light this term, but United wanted to keep him around the first team squad along with other starlets.

However, he is set to miss crucial game time for United.

Man Utd give Amad Diallo injury update

In a statement on their official website, United confirmed that the Ivorian winger will miss the first part of the Premier League season, which includes the season opener against Wolves on August 14.

The exact timeframe of his recovery has not yet been revealed, with the club awaiting further details on when he could make a return to action.

Speaking to United's website in March, Amad spoke about how his loan spell could push him forward during the upcoming campaign.

He explained: "When a player goes out on loan, the first thing is to get lots of playing minutes, and yes, once you get lots of minutes and start playing lots, you grow straight away.

"Your confidence increases, and I think that, since I have been here [at Sunderland], at the beginning I didn't play much, but then I started playing regularly and, from there, it all started.

"And, like I said before, I think this loan spell will help me for next season because it has helped me mature and I have grown lots, on a mental level as well, and feel I have the ability to show this next season."
