Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was greeted by thousands of fans on his much-anticipated arrival at Mumbai airport on Saturday as he embarks on a three-city tour of India.

The 50-year-old, who scored 126 goals in 366 games during a trophy-laden 11-year spell at Manchester United, is currently touring the populated city on India’s west coast after visiting Bengaluru.

According to data from YouGov, 38% of United's global fan base resides in the country.

And at the weekend, a large group of supporters belted out Solskjaer's famous chant as they gathered outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

In a statement this week, Solskjaer spoke about his visit to India. “I am truly thrilled to finally be here in India and meet the nation’s Red Devils," he said.

"This tour organised by Tilak is not only a memorable moment for fans but also for me as I have been eager to visit the country and experience its footballing culture.

"I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome I have received in Bengaluru, and eagerly anticipate meeting fans in Delhi and Mumbai.”

The Norwegian, who will also visit Delhi on February 11, will speak to fans about his favourite tales and stories from his time at Old Trafford, as well as engaging in meet-and-greets.

Tilak Gaurang Shah, who is the founder of Ace of Pubs, also opened up on Solskjaer visit this week, saying: “Today marks the start of a special three-day journey for Manchester United fans across the nation.

"By bringing Solskjaer to India, we have not only given fans the chance to meet their idol but also been able to showcase the deep connection between the country and the club.

"Through this tour, we aim to fulfil the lifelong dreams of supporters and provide them with precious football items they will cherish for years to come."
