A Non-League player has gone viral online after signing for FC United and quitting just hours after giving an interview.

The Northern Premier League side, founded in 2005 by Manchester United fans opping the Glazers' takeover of the Red Devils, agreed a deal for striker Bobby Grant on Friday.

They took to X to announce the signing of Grant, who played for the likes of Scunthorpe, Rochdale, Blackpool and Wrexham.

He has dropped down the leagues in recent times and was player-manager at Radcliffe Borough before departing at the end of last term.

Grant looked set to be back playing in the NPL again after penning a deal with United, who shared the news and revealed he was available for the next game.

The club said: "We're delighted to announce that we've signed a striker who brings a top pedigree and a proven track record in the NPL.

"He's in contention for tomorrow's squad v Guiseley so get yourself to that football ground - Saturday 3pm.”

Accompanying the post was a video of Grant in his new tracksuit talking about the new chapter and stating that "things change in football.”

That statement could not be more true. Hours later and Grant had performed quite the U-turn, informing United he had a "more attractive offer" that he elected to accept.

A second statement read: "Deal off.... Bobby Grant contacted the club last night to state that he's decided to sign for another club after receiving a more attractive offer yesterday evening."

Grant had actually returned to North West Counties side Litherland REMYCA FC, who he had joined for the first time just over a month before.

He made his second debut in front of 68 fans in a 4-3 defeat to Chadderton in the Macron NWCFL League Cup.

Meanwhile, United claimed a 3-2 victory over Guiseley in front of 1,700 fans.
