Man Utd fans think Newcastle will 'help fund Bryan Mbeumo move' after latest transfer news emerges

Newcastle have enquired about the former United winger.

Newcastle could help fund Manchester United's move for Bryan Mbeumo this summer after it emerged that the Magpies are 'pursuing a move' for one of their former academy graduates.

It was widely reported this week that Mbeumo, 25, has decided he wants to join Manchester United ahead of the new campaign, with the Reds opening talks with Brentford as they pursue an agreement to sign the in-form forward.

After notching 20 goals and seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances for the Bees last season, the France-born Cameroon international has attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle and Spurs.

But it appears Mbeumo will be part of a new-look front three at Old Trafford next season, although talks are still ongoing over an agreed transfer fee.

A first bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was rejected by Brentford, according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, but parties have remained in talks and a second bid has since been placed, which is said to be over the £60 million mark.

Amid negotiations between United and Brentford, it has emerged that Newcastle are actively pursuing a move for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

An enquiry has already been made and talks over a possible move are at an early stage, according to the Daily Mail, who claim Forest would demand a 'sizeable fee' for the Swede. In fact, it would reportedly take upwards of £50 million for a deal to happen.

The news around Newcastle's interest in Elanga will certainly be welcomed by those at United, after the club inserted a sell-on clause when they sold him to Forest in the summer of 2023 for around £15 million.

Here's how United fans on social media reacted to latest transfer news.

One said: "We have a sell-on clause for Elanga. Newcastle will basically be funding our move for Mbeumo," while a second wrote: "The irony of Newcastle funding our Mbeumo move is just delicious."

A third commented: "Newcastle United had their top target snatched by Manchester United so they go to their next target and pay Manchester United money to get him. Beautiful scenes."

A fourth said: "Sell on clause for United, bring it," and a fifth added: "Utd praying Elanga & Alvaro Fernandez get sold by their clubs, puts a bit of extra cash into Utd's coffers from the sell-on clauses."

Eddie Howe is believed to be a big fan of Elanga and even attempted to bring the Sweden international to St James' Park last summer.

Back in August, Sky reporter Keith Downie claimed the Magpies held talks with Forest over a potential deal worth over £35 million but a deal never materalised, with Forest being in no rush to let Elanga leave.

The winger went on to score six goals last season as Forest secured their place in the Conference League with a seventh-place finish.
