Bruno Fernandes criticised for incident involving Iliman Ndiaye as his actions are branded 'bang out of order' and 'disgusting'

An incident involving Iliman Ndiaye and Bruno Fernandes was one of the big talking points from Manchester United's pre-season clash against Everton, with the latter's actions being described as "bang out of order" and "really stupid".

United played out an action-packed 2-2 draw against Everton on Sunday as Ruben Amorim's side won the Premier League Summer Series following previous wins over West Ham and Bournemouth.

Bruno Fernandes put the Reds ahead with 20 minutes on the clock after converting from the penalty spot, but his effort was soon cancelled out by Iliman Ndiaye, who finished at the far post following some great play from Idrissa Gueye.

After some wholesale changes at half-time, Ndiaye and Fernandes remained on the pitch – and they both clashed in the 74th minute, when the latter kicked out as his opponent as Everton launched a dangerous counter attack.

Moments later, a furious Ndiaye turned to confront United's captain and a pushing match ensued, with tempers reaching boiling point before teammates attempted to pull them apart, just seconds after Ayden Heaven scored an own goal.

The scuffle sparked plenty of conversation on social media, and after the full-time whistle, YouTube personality and Manchester United fan Mark Goldbridge made his feelings clear on the incident.

"What he did to Ndiaye was disgusting... absolutely disgusting," Goldbridge said on The United Stand. "It's a good job Everton went and scored because that was disgusting. He loses the ball, and then he kicks a player... he's about three metres away from the ball.

"That was disgusting what he did. Bang out of order," the YouTube personality added. "If Roy Keane had done that, people would be going mad. It was really petulant and it was really stupid and it would have been a red card in the Premier League."

Speaking in his post-match interview with NBC Sports, Fernandes didn't hold back as he reflected on the final stages of their pre-season tour of America.

"It was positive," he said. "Obviously it was positive to be together, to create a bond between the players, to get into the way we want to play and to involve the new ones and everything.

"But obviously we didn't want to finish in this way; our performance wasn't the best. Off the ball, I think we were a little bit lazy today. We have to avoid that because the laziness means you can pay at any moment. By one mistake from me, we ended up at 2-2."

Fernandes is hoping United can bring in more reinforcements this summer following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo.

Asked if the club was where it needed to be heading into the new season, he said: "It's improving but it's not the place it needs to be. I don't want to take a dig at anyone but the club is doing the best they can in terms of the financial situation they talk about.

"But it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here, more quality to get everyone to step up a little more to get to the XI, and I think that is what the club are trying to do. Hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that."
