Former Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has named one of his old team-mates as 'the best in the Premier League' in his position.

Telles signed for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United during the summer of 2020, but found regular first team football hard to come by at Old Trafford.

He was renowned at previous club Porto for his set piece skills and attacking qualities, and although he registered six assists in two seasons with United, supporters may have been hoping for more.

After spending last season on loan with Sevilla, Telles was allowed to find a new club by Erik ten Hag, and signed for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in the summer.

Telles has scored two goals and registered three assists for the Cristiano Ronaldo-led side, including a stunning free kick during a 3-1 win over Al Ettifaq in December.

The Brazil international, who represented his country at the 2022 World Cup, has been reflecting on his time in the Premier League - and has given his opinion on who the best player in the Premier League is today in his position.

He told Portuguese outlet Sapo Desporto: "It [joining United] was a mixture of adaptation, and they also have a great player in Luke Shaw - the best left-back in the Premier League.

"In my first year, we shared the games and the place in the starting XI.

"We got on really well, he's a friend of mine. He's got a lot of quality.

"Under those circumstances, with him having been at the club for a long time, I managed to play 25 games a season. And 50 games at a club like United is good. It was very good for my career."

Shaw has had a difficult campaign this season at United, with injuries disrupting his progress.

He has been limited to just 12 Premier League appearances this season, with Ten Hag's side missing his output both in defence and attack.

And it was announced last month that he had suffered a hamstring injury that will almost certainly rule him out for the remainder of the season.

When fit, however, he has been a key player throughout Ten Hag's reign, and also produced impressive displays under Solskjaer's reign.

Shaw has been at Old Trafford for almost 10 years after signing from Southampton in 2014 - and will be eligible for a testimonial this summer if he chooses to accept one.
