Manchester United could save themselves millions in the January transfer window due to a contract clause.

Man United rescued a point against Tottenham in a four-goal thriller on Saturday.

The Red Devils opened the scoring through Bryan Mbeumo, who headed home in the first-half.

Spurs levelled seven minutes from time before taking the lead in stoppage time. Matthijs de Ligt equalised at the death as fans criticised Ruben Amorim's big call during the clash.

Man United extended their unbeaten streak, taking it to five games, which includes victories over Liverpool and Brighton.

But Amorim was dealt a blow in the game as Benjamin Sesko pulled up with a suspected knee injury.

Sesko, who came on in the second-half, will undergo tests to determine the severity of his injury.

Amorim was asked whether Sesko had suffered a serious injury to which he replied: "I have no idea, but because it's the knee we never know."

The Portuguese boss could be left with a selection nightmare if Sesko requires a spell on the sidelines, especially considering Mbeumo, who now has five league goals to his name, Amad Diallo, who registered an assist against Spurs, and Noussair Mazraoui will all be away with Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Morocco respectively for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Man United, however, could relieve some of their issues by adding Harry Amass, who is on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, into their first-team squad.

Amass' loan expires in January 2026 - not until the end of the season.

That means he could deputise when Man United lose Amad and Mazraoui to AFCON.

Given the 18-year-old has played 11 games for Sheff Wednesday so far this season, he could slot straight in and compete for a starting spot at left wing-back.

Will Man United enter the market for new players in January?

If Sesko's injury is serious, then Man United could explore the market for a replacement.

Amorim was asked about his January plans.

On whether he will sign anyone when the transfer market reopens amid Sesko's injury and AFCON, the 40-year-old replied: "Let's if we can improve the team and trying to repair something that happened."

He added: "We have to check everything, we have to check what’s happened with Sesko."

When is AFCON and how many games could the Man Utd stars miss?

AFCON 2025 takes place in Morocco and will begin on December 21 and runs until January 18, 2026, which is the date of the final.

Given Mbeumo, Amad and Mazraoui play for strong nations, they are expected to enter the latter stages of the competition, meaning they could miss up to six games, including fixtures against Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Manchester City.
