Graham Potter has reportedly rejected an offer from a huge European club.

Graham Potter has reportedly rejected an offer from a huge European club amid having his odds slashed on becoming the next Manchester United manager.

Sky Sports News claimed Potter has turned down the chance to become the next Ajax boss.

Potter was the Dutch giants’ primary target after holding talks with the club, but the former Chelsea and Brighton manager is thought to have ultimately opted against the move.

The 48-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.

In December Sky Sports claimed Potter was expected to be high on Ineos’ shortlist of managerial candidates should they sack Erik ten Hag.

And according to Bet365, at 3/1 Potter is the favourite to take over at United. England manager Gareth Southgate is at 4/1 while Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim and Brentford’s Thomas Frank are at 8/1.

Dan Ashworth, who is tipped to become United’s sporting director, previously appointed Potter at Brighton, where the Englishman won plaudits for his style of play. In his third and final season in Sussex, Potter's Seagulls finished in the Premier League’s top half.

However, speaking before the weekend’s 2-2 draw with rivals Liverpool, Ten Hag insisted he expects to be at United next season.

"I don't have any doubts," Ten Hag told Sky Sports. "I'm just focusing on my job, focusing on this process, in this project. I really love to be here, I'm enjoying it. For me it's a challenge.”

Indeed, despite a series of setbacks this season, Ten Hag is adamant that United, who are sixth in the Premier League and were eliminated in the Champions League group stages, are progressing.

"It will not go always in the right way, it's not going always the results in the way we wanted but I'm sure we're in the right direction and we will get where we want to be.”
