Manchester United fans have apologised to one player following his performance in the dramatic win over Lyon at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim led United to a season-defining win over French side Olympique Lyonnais in the Europa League on Thursday night, booking his side's place in the semi-finals.

After goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot that sealed United's place in the first round, it seemed that United were coasting to victory, but they were forced to dig deep and come back in a highly dramatic period of extra time, with the final score being 5-4.

Immediately after the match, United fans took to social media to celebrate, with many of them issuing an apology and praising one specific player who impressed during the crucial game.

It's safe to say that United have had a dreadful season, with it all but certain that the Red Devils will finish the season in their lowest Premier League position since the competition began back in 1992.

Because of this, winning the Europa League is the only way that United can book a place in the Champions League next season, placing immense pressure on Thursday's match in Manchester.

But one player who stepped up to this pressure, was Portuguese defender Dalot, who produced a season-best performance against Lyon.

Reacting to the match, one fan simply wrote: "I apologise to Diogo Dalot"

One fan pointed out: "Dalot on the right is so much better my word."

Another replied, claiming they have always backed him, adding: "I find it mad how people criticise him, he is always available & consistent for us."

While another agreed writing: "I'm delighted for Dalot. His form has improved massively over recent weeks. He got a hell of a lot of stick when he was played on the left despite that not being his position."

United will face Athletic Club in the semi-finals following their 2-0 home win over Rangers following a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Glasgow.

The first leg will be played on May 1, with the second leg to take place a week later.

Should they make it to the final at the Estadio de San Mames in Bilbao, United will face either Dutch side FK Bodo Glimt or Tottenham Hotspur, who will play each other in the other semi-final.
