Erik ten Hag has named the most professional player he ever coached and it isn't a Manchester United player.

The Dutchman, who is now staying at Manchester United following an end-of-season review, was on punditry duty for NOS for England's win over Serbia on Sunday night.

Ten Hag did not pull any punches whatsoever, criticising Gareth Southgate's approach with England and giving his verdict on Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish being left out of the squad.

The Dutch TV station conducted an interview with Serbia captain Dusan Tadic, who came on for Aleksandar Mitrovic after an hour.

And it meant Tadic was virtually reunited with Ten Hag, who he played under for four years at Ajax.

Ten Hag was asked about the Fenerbahce midfielder and spoke with such admiration, hailing him as "the most professional player" and claiming he was always available for selection.

“He is the most professional player I have ever worked with," he said.

"I worked with him for 4,5 years, in those 4,5 years he was always fit.

"Such a fantastic leader for the rest. He also pulls the rest along and takes responsibility.

“Tadic really takes care of the discipline and he is always fit. He always ensures that there is dynamism and spirit in the team.

“He always had that decisive pass and he won so many games for him. I still have regular contact with him.”

Ten Hag spoke to Tadic through the screen as part of NOS' coverage, praising him and the cameo he produced in Gelsenkirchen.

“Dusan, good to see you," Ten Hag commented.

"I’m always happy to see you. You are capable of doing great things on the field. You are someone who can decide every match. Today we also saw two good moments from you.”

Tadic repaid the compliments, describing Ten Hag as "the best trainer" he ever had and stating that players "learn a lot from him".
