Dominik Szoboszlai could be seen pointing to his sleeve as he walked past a raucous Stretford End following Sunday's dramatic clash between Manchester United and Liverpool.

Liverpool's title defence under Arne Slot has been widely criticised as one of the worst in Premier League history, with the team sitting 18 points behind leaders Arsenal with three games to play.

In fact, Slot has equalled Brendan Rodgers’ record of 18 losses in all competitions during his final full season in charge of Liverpool – a stat that sums up their woes of late.

It has been a campaign to forget for the Reds, and things went from bad to worse at Old Trafford, when Kobbie Mainoo scored a dramatic winner for United after the visitors clawed their way back to 2-2.

Michael Carrick's side took an early two-goal lead through Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

However, after a poor first-half display, Dominik Szoboszlai managed to make it 2-1 before Cody Gapko tapped in from close range following a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

But despite showing glimpses in that second-half, Slot's men were trumped in the final stages.

After the final whistle on Sunday, a number of Liverpool players were met by a chorus of jeers from sections of the Stretford End as they made their way towards the Old Trafford tunnel.

Many ignored the hostile reception, including Virgil van Dijk, but teammate Szoboszlai could be seen pointing to the Premier League logo on his sleeve as if to remind the fans about last season's title win.

In fact, Szoboszlai tapped the logo for several seconds before making his way down the tunnel.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the scenes.

One wrote: "Someone might want to tell Dominik Szoboszlai that the Premier League title taunt doesn't really work between Manchester United & Liverpool. Manchester United won more PL titles just by doing a three-peat than Liverpool have won in the PL's entire thirty four year history."

A second said: "Nah. Bro is POINTING the PL logo to a CLUB that’s lifted it 13 TIMES, while his own TEAM has only managed it TWICE. That’s EMBARRASSMENT at its finest."

A third commented: "Imagine getting battered by the team that finished 15th last season, did the double over you, and are now sitting above you in the table… while you’ve spent £450m. Worst champions ever."

A fourth wrote: "Does he know which club he is playing against? They have 2 PREMIER LEAGUE titles," and a fifth added: "This is, I'm afraid, the most rattled thing you can possibly do in this situation."

Dominik Szoboszlai's post-match interview after Man Utd defeat speaks volumes

Speaking in the aftermath of Sunday's clash at Old Trafford, a disappointed Szoboszlai gave his assessment of Liverpool's performance.

"Before the game you speak about set-pieces, don’t concede; I don’t know when the first goal happened, you concede from a set-piece. Also you talk about counter-attacks and then the second goal happens from a counter-attack," he said.

"We have to be more focused, we have to take more care of the details and in the end hopefully the luck is going to stay on our side."

Asked to describe his overall emotions after the game, he said: "Not good, as we go home with zero points. And after the first half we shouldn’t be happy at all."
