Fans claim to have found 'proof' disallowed Coventry goal vs Man Utd should have stood

Fans believe Coventry's disallowed goal against United should have stood

Coventry saw an extra-time goal disallowed against Manchester United but fans noticed something very interesting.

The Championship side netted three unanswered goals to complete an unlikely second-half comeback against Erik ten Hag’s men and thought they had won the game in additional time.

Victor Torp stretched out a leg to divert Haji Wright’s cross past Andre Onana but VAR intervened to rule the goal out for offside.

Wright was adjudged to have strayed into an offside position in the build-up meaning the goal was chalked out and penalties decided the contest. United kept their cool in the shoot-out and booked their place against Manchester City in the final for the second successive year.

However, eagle-eyed fans on X believe a huge error has been made and showcased footage that could suggest Coventry are the rightful FA Cup finalists.

An image shared on the social media platform claims the offside lines drawn by VAR went over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s boot and therefore were drawn incorrectly.

The post was captioned: “Genuinely you can see the line go over the boot.”

Plenty of supporters were fuming after seeing the image, claiming United were wrongful victors.

One wrote: “How can you give this offside ffs. It’s just a total joke.”

Another added: “If VAR drew the lines correctly, it wouldn't have been offside. This United players toe is within the red line, playing the Coventry City player ONSIDE. This blue line is an inch or two too far back. It's over the top of his foot!”

One more said: “It’s so blindingly obvious that the FA desperately wanted a Manchester derby final. Ruining the sport man.”

However, others added the decision was in fact the correct one.

One fan wrote: “It goes by the centre of the line. They’re thickened for tv so it can be seen more easily.”

Another said: “Blue line is the toe of the defender attacker is red…. Why are people so annoyed, yes it’s close but he’s offside, that’s that.”

Next season in the Premier League, semi-automated technology will be introduced to help clear up tight offside calls, mimicking the systems used at the World Cup and Champions League.
