Marcos Rojo has become a free agent after his contract at Argentine side Boca Juniors was terminated following the club's Club World Cup exit.
Rojo, who joined Boca from Manchester United in 2021 for an undisclosed fee, was expected to become one of their key players alongside international teammate Carlos Tevez.
A few months later, he was banned from captaining the Buenos Aires-based club for a month after being sent off during a 1-0 victory over River Plate,

Rojo, who received a one-match ban from the Argentine FA, relinquished the armband as a result of Boca manager Hugo Ibarra and his dressing room rules around being dismissed.
The defender went on to spend four years at La Bombonera, but on Thursday, a report from ESPN confirmed that Rojo's contract has been terminated six months early.
It means Rojo will not complete the rest of the season with Boca, who are currently midway through their league campaign and sit joint-top of the Argentine Primera Division table.

After failing to play a single minute at this summer's Club World Cup, Rojo leaves Boca after playing 118 games for the club. He also won four titles, including the Copa Argentina and Copa de la Liga in 2022.
ESPN journalist Diego Monroig confirmed the news surrounding his future.
"I can confirm that Boca's squad is scheduled for Tuesday, and one player will not be present at the stadium: Marcos Rojo is no longer a Boca player," he said.
"The defender is moving forward with his departure from Boca; he won't wait until the end of the year."

Monroig added: "He will no longer be under Miguel Ángel Russo's command. He's with his family here in the United States and won't be boarding the plane with the squad. On Tuesday, the coach won't have him at training."

Rojo has endured a number of injury problems since joining from Manchester United, including a muscle issue that plagued his time at the club. He also tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in 2022, which kept him out for months.
