Casemiro aims brutal dig at Jamie Carragher when addressing 'game has left him' comment

Casemiro has addressed Jamie Carragher's infamous 'game has left him' comments after Manchester United beat Liverpool.

Casemiro has been a crucial part of the Manchester United team under Michael Carrick and has had some impressive performances in the second half of the season to help the club qualify for the Champions League.

The Brazilian has already announced that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season and that despite this upsurge in form he will not change his mind to remain at the club.

Casemiro had famously been criticised by Jamie Carragher from May 2024, made during a Sky Sports discussion.

The 2005 Champions League winner said: ““I always remember the saying ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’. The football has left him. At this top level, he needs to call it a day at this level and move.

“The level of that player, he should not be putting himself through this. He is too good of a player to be putting in a performance like that, being laughed at by Crystal Palace. He needs to call it a day."

Now, Casemiro will have been pleased to have had a good performance in United’s victory over Liverpool at the weekend, as it gives him the perfect platform in which to respond to the pundit’s previous comments about him.

Speaking to TNT Sport Brazil, they brought up the comments made earlier in the season by Carragher, and Casemiro has now given his response and, in the process, had a dig at Liverpool.

The 34-year-old said: “Everyone says whatever they want on television. I’m not someone who gets involved in that.

“But it’s a bit normal, because I won two Champions League titles over his team. Maybe after you win two titles against his club, there’s still some bitterness there.

“I respect his opinion. I don’t hold any resentment. The important thing is that he recognised he was wrong and changed his opinion. That’s what matters most.”

Casemiro also explained how he is exhausted by the modern football cycle within the media and how he avoids social media entirely.

The Brazilian said: “Nowadays everyone has an opinion; everyone wants to go viral. Everyone thinks they know football, everyone thinks they’re a star, everyone thinks they understand everything. Today if you win, you’re the best, and if you lose, you’re the worst. But football isn’t always like that.

Casemiro will leave United this summer.

“That’s why I don’t even have social media on my phone. Everyone wants attention now.”

The five-time Champions League winner has also given his view on Michael Carrick since the Englishman took the helm of Manchester United in January.

While there has been no announcement about who will be the permanent manager of the Red Devils, Casemiro believes Carrick should be given the opportunity after helping the club qualify for the Champions League once again.

He said: “He came in as interim manager, but he handled difficult matches very well.

“He knows the club; he understands what Manchester United is. He has class. He has the posture of a Manchester United person.

“For me, this guy has to stay for more years at the club because he deserves it. He deserves it a lot.

“When you work with him every day, you look at him and think: ‘This guy deserves it.’”
