
A shock update on Bruno Fernandes' situation at Manchester United has emerged amid Michael Carrick's appointment as caretaker manager.
Following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, Darren Fletcher took charge of United on an interim basis - drawing 2-2 with Burnley and losing to Brighton in the FA Cup third round.
United carried out a process in selecting a new caretaker coach, with both Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoken to by the club.
With United chiefs high on former Middlesbrough boss Carrick, they opted to pick their former midfielder - who had a three-game run as interim manager in 2021.

Carrick's first game will be against rivals Manchester City in Saturday's derby and he has been tasked to steady the ship before the club look for a 12th coach in 13 years in the summer.
The hope is that Carrick will be able to get a tune out of players who did not do the business under Amorim's approach.

A new report from the i Paper says that United have some difficult decisions to make regarding their big stars, with Fernandes' future a key point of focus.

Following on from the Europa League final defeat to Spurs, the United captain turned down a lucrative contract offer from the Saudi Pro League.
Al Hilal wanted to reunite him with his Portugal teammates Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo and there were negotiations with his camp. Fernandes elected to stay put as he still wants to "play at the highest level and compete for major titles".
However, the report from Pete Hall states that "there is a general fear" that Fernandes may well have "had enough" and will look to move on.

Fernandes, who had a positive with relationship with compatriot Amorim, remains United's most important player and personality but a source for the paper questioned whether he will continue at Old Trafford in such a tumultuous period given his lofty ambitions.

Contracted until 2027 with the option of a 12-month extension, Fernandes is expected to have interest from Saudi return.
But it's also claimed that Bayern Munich are huge admirers of the former Sporting CP man and remain interested. Their £87 million deal for Harry Kane proves that they would have no issue paying significant money for a player in his 30s.

According to the report, Fernandes' contract included a clause that he is allowed to leave England for a fee of £57 million - which could alert the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
