Benjamin Sesko Stats on First Man Utd Start Look Like a Typo

Benjamin Sesko led the line from the start against Manchester City.

The stats from Benjamin Sesko's first Manchester United start in the league have emerged and it makes for tough reading.

Sesko arrived at Man United as one of their marque summer signings following his £73.7 million transfer from RB Leipzig.

He made his first Premier League appearance from the start in Sunday's crushing defeat to cross-city rivals Manchester City, who ran out 3-0 winners at the Etihad.

The 22-year-old led the line, with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo occupying the two No.10 spots.

But he had a frustrating league outing and managed just one shot - a tame effort in the first-half, which was easily saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

What's more, Sesko had just 20 touches against Man City and none of them came in the opposition box.

Sesko, who started against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, has yet to open his Man United account in five games for his new side.

Speaking after Man United's second league defeat of the new season, Ruben Amorim said 'it will take time' for the Slovenian.

"He is going to feel that he is in the strongest league in the world," said Amorim. "We can help Sesko to use his qualities, but it will take time."

Wayne Rooney explains why he feels sorry for Benjamin Sesko

Wayne Rooney shared his assessment of Sesko and revealed why he feels sorry for him.

He suggested the forward is currently feeding off hopeful balls into the box rather than being presented with clear-cut chances.

On The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney said: "The one positive I will find is they did put a lot of crosses into the box and did get into some really good areas.

"Sesko didn’t really have many opportunities and looked a bit off it fitness-wise but I thought United got into some really good areas. It looked like the crosses were just being put in there for the sake of it.

"What I will say for any centre forward or Sesko is when that’s happening it’s very difficult to time your run and to try to get on the end of things."
