Manchester United are reportedly weighing up signing a €100million Barcelona star as a back-up option, and fans cannot believe it.

After what was a lacklustre season for United on all fronts, the transfer window ahead of the 2025/26 season is perhaps the most important in the club's recent history.

Manager Ruben Amorim started the summer off strong. adding former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha to his front line, while also working on the sales of several players.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are all expected to leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks, having made it clear that they see their futures elsewhere.

However, a new report has claimed that United are preparing to once again turn their attention to new signings as they weigh up a huge move for a Barcelona wonderkid.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, United are considering launching a pursuit of young defensive midfielder Marc Casado, viewing him as the perfect back-up option for Manuel Ugarte.

But any deal for the 21-year-old will not be easy given the fact that his contract with Barcelona runs until the end of June 2028 and the La Liga champions show no signs of wanting to sell him this summer.

Therefore, United's best chance of securing his signature may be triggering the release clause included in his contract, with the only slight roadblock being that it is set at a stunning €100m (£86.4m).

Reacting to the news, one fan wrote on X: "Ineos digging their heels in for ran extra £5m for Mbeumo but suddenly they're gonna pay £90m for this guy!"

While another added: "But we don’t have the money to buy him …. We are linked to anyone who is fed up at their club at the moment."

And another simply added several laughing emojis, writing: "United and €100m in the same sentence!"

However, it is believed that, although Barcelona would rather hold onto the youngster, they would not be completely against selling him if a suitable offer arrived, even if it were to be below his release clause.

But if it becomes clear that Casado is available this summer, then United won't be the only club interested, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen also linked with the Spaniard.
