On-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has received a rather interesting nickname since joining Turkish side Trabzonspor.
It’s fair to say Onana had his critics during his time at Manchester United, following his £47.2 million move from Inter in 2023.
Despite helping the side win the FA Cup in 2024, overall, the Cameroon international’s two seasons as United’s number one were littered with high-profile errors, which eventually led to his season-long loan agreement with Trabzonspor.
The 29-year-old has featured in six Super Lig fixtures for the Turkish side this term and impressed during the outfit’s 2-0 victory over Eyupsor, which saw them go second behind Galatasaray.

In his six appearances, Onana has conceded six goals and kept two clean sheets.
But his showing on Saturday was arguably his best since arriving in Turkey, with the shot stopper pulling off several acrobatic saves to preserve his side’s clean sheet.

The former United player also completed 30 of his attempted 35 passes in the victory and cut a confident figure in between the posts, having previously appeared nervous and indecisive on the ball during his time at Old Trafford.

Whether there is a future for Onana at United, given Senne Lammens’ recent arrival, is still unclear, but there’s no doubting the fact that he has impressed in Turkey.
And his performances have impressed so much that he has even earned a complimentary nickname at Trabzonspor.
Following the side’s 2-0 weekend win, the club posted a graphic of Onana on their social media platforms, accompanied by the caption “The Wall”.
Several fans were quick to comment on Onana’s upturn in form on social media.

One said: “When life is tough, you just remember how many ex-Man Utd players got their life back after leaving the club. All you need is to take a step out of the shadow, and the grass will be greener again. So happy for Onana.”
Another added: “I'm finding it so hard to believe this is real. Everyone is leaving Man U and having a great time.”
While a third joked: “We are expecting you to open your wallet in the January transfer window…”
A fourth commented: “Onana is becoming ‘The Wall’ as soon as he leaves Manchester United, but at MU he could not lay a brick.”

It is unclear how much Onana would cost if Trabzonspor do pursue a permanent deal with the player’s £100,000 per week contract at United set to run until the summer of 2027.
