Man Utd starlet Amad Diallo says Sky Sports post about him is 'not true' after conflicting reports

Man Utd starlet Amad Diallo says Sky Sports post about him is 'not true' after conflicting reports

Amad was forced to deny the post.

Man Utd wonderkid Amad Diallo was forced to describe a Sky Sports post that claimed he was going to the Africa Cup of Nations as 'not true'.

The Ivorian has recently returned from a knee injury which he suffered in pre-season, coming off the bench during United's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Championship side Sunderland, has received four caps for the Ivory Coast senior national team.

But he was not named in their Africa Cup of Nations squad by head coach Jean-Louis Gasset, although no official reason was given for the decision.

Among the Premier League representatives in the squad are Brighton's Simon Adingra and Nottingham Forest trio Serge Aurier, Ibrahim Sangare and Willy Boly.

Ex-Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe is also involved, as well as former Barcelona and AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

But several outlets, including a post from Sky Sports, named Amad in a now-deleted post as one of the Manchester United players who will be leaving to play in AFCON. Andre Onana is in the Cameroon squad, while Sofyan Amrabat will play for Morocco.

But Amad will not be at the tournament, which left some fans confused after reading Sky Sports' post.

And in a response to a fan questioning if the 21-year-old was actually going to AFCON, the winger replied: "Not true."

Amad will instead remain at Old Trafford, meaning he will be available for key Premier League fixtures against Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa.

Onana and Amrabat could miss all of those games if their nations reach the AFCON final, with the competition ending on the date of the Villa clash on February 11.

Erik ten Hag and his side will hope to deal with the temporary departures of those two players, however, with Altay Bayindir likely to step up and become United's first-choice goalkeeper in Onana's absence.
