Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir made history during the victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.

After a thrilling FA Cup match between Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal ended in a 1-1 draw, both sides stepped up to competed in a penalty shootout to decide the winner of the tie.

Initially, Arsenal were able to keep up with United as they continued to score each of their early penalties, however after striker Kai Havertz failed to find the back of the net, the Gunners were eliminated from the FA Cup.

Having won the match for his team, United second goalkeeper Bayindir immediately become the hero of the match and it has since been revealed that he achieved something that no one else has ever done during Sunday's game.

Early in the second half, Arsenal were offered the chance to take the lead as a foul from Harry Maguire inside the United box led to the hosts being handed a penalty.

However, the Turkish keeper stood up to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, denying him and keeping the score at 1-1.

And after saving Havertz's penalty in the shootout, Bayindir became the first Premier Legate goalkeeper on record to save a penalty in both normal time and in a penalty shootout in the same FA Cup game.

The FA Cup clash with Arsenal was only the goalkeeper's fifth appearance for United, as he has spent much of his time with the club behind first choice keeper Andre Onana.

"If you are not playing it doesn't matter," Bayindir told the BBC, after Sunday's match.

"You have to be ready every minute, every second. If you are a Manchester United player you have to be ready always.

"I am working every day. I am patient. I just want to help this great team.

"I want to make everyone happy for this great club."

The 26-year-old also took the opportunity to praise new United manager Ruben Amorim, who joined the club in November.

Bayindir added: "[Ruben Amorim] is talking with us every day and he wants to help us.

"We love him and he's always trying to do his best. He has a very good relationship with the players and we are trusting him, he is trusting us.

"We are fighting together."
