Fans left baffled after spotting what David Raya did during FA Cup penalty shootout defeat to Man Utd

A compilation of Raya's performance has gone viral.

Manchester United secured their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday thanks, in part, to an 'all-time horrific' penalty shootout performance from Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya

It was a spirited display from Ruben Amorim's side, who survived an hour with 10 men to secure a memorable 5-3 win on penalties following an action-packed 1-1 draw in normal time.

United's go-to penalty taker Bruno Fernandes converted the first spot-kick of the shootout, sending goalkeeper David Raya the wrong way with a typically accurate strike.

Martin Odegaard made up for missing his penalty in normal time to make it 1-1 but once again, the often-reliable Raya was sent the wrong way; this time by defender Lisandro Martinez.

Moments later, Kai Havertz missed from 12 yards, which gave summer signing Leny Yoro the chance to give the visitors a one-goal advantage – and he didn't disappoint.

In fact, Yoro's penalty has since gone viral on social media, although it has nothing to do with the former Lille centre-back.

As you can see from the footage below, Raya went the wrong way again but this time, the Spaniard stepped to his left way before Yoro made contact with the ball.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the moment.

One said: "This looks like EA FC 25 when you’ve already committed to one side and dive before the ball is kicked," while a second wrote: "Pro clubs dive."

A third commented: "Kane literally came out and said 'yeah I stuttered my run up because raya moves really early' after his penalty vs us last season and he’s just carried on doing it."

A fourth wrote: "I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse goalkeeping display in a shootout than him there, he did this exact thing for every f****** penalty."

A fifth added: "What’s this technique from Raya?"

It was certainly an entertaining game at the Emirates. United went 1-0 up courtesy of a wonderful finish from Bruno Fernandes, who was once again one of the club's standout performers.

But after Diogo Dalot was sent off for a mistimed a challenge on Mikel Merino, Arsenal looked to be in the driving seat when they levelled with a deflected strike from Gabriel Magalhaes.

With 10 men for just over an hour, United produced a tireless display as second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir produced some heroics to deny Martin Odegaard after Kai Havertz won a penalty in controversial fashion.

And the brilliant Bayindir delivered again as Raya struggled throughout the penalty shootout. You can see a compilation of his performance below.
