Alejandro Garnacho's Manchester United future may have taken a fresh test following on from an update from Fabrizio Romano.

Garnacho has been heavily linked with a departure from Old Trafford this month, with both Chelsea and Napoli registering strong interest in the Argentina international.

As an academy graduate and homegrown player, the sale of Garnacho would go down as pure profit on the balance sheet and it has been reported that United would be looking for a fee of £70 million to consider selling the 20-year-old.

His situation is certainly one to keep an eye on as we enter the final days of the January transfer window and a new update could impact what happens before the deadline.

Napoli are desperate to sign a new left winger after talisman Khvicha Kvaratskhelia left in a €70 million switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

In addition to Garnacho, the Serie A league leaders identified Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi as a target, with Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna confirming the interest.

He told DAZN: "These are two names that are of interest to us, they are players we like, but they are not the only ones.

“We are trying to evaluate a few things and looking at the opportunities, but we certainly will not pay prices that are outside the market value.”

However, according to Romano, Adeyemi has decided to stay with Dortmund in in a blow to Napoli - who had explored the possibility of doing a deal.

That leaves Garnacho as their only significant option and could mean the Naples outfit accelerate their pursuit for the former Atletico Madrid youngster.

However, Tuttosport, via Football Italia say the club are not prepared to go higher than €50 million plus €5 million in add-ons for Garnacho.

Amorim praises Garnacho after his showing vs Fulham

Garnacho has been in and out of the team under Amorim but had back-to-back starts last week and Amorim was pleased with how he fared in the 1-0 win over Fulham.

"He is improving in every part of the game: the understanding, when to defend," Amorim said.

"I am trying to find the best position for him. Today he played a bit open, not so inside. We need guys who can play one v one."

Speaking about Garnacho's future following the 2-1 victory over Rangers, Amorim said: "We don't know what can happen until the window closes."

Garnacho signed a new contract in April of last year, committing his future to United until 2028.
