"He'd do my nut in!" - Alan Shearer slams Man United star who would be ‘very difficult’ to play with

Manchester United held Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon

Alan Shearer has criticised one Manchester United star after their 0-0 draw against Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag’s men travelled to Anfield on Sunday as the underdogs after their recent defeats against Bournemouth and Bayern Munich.

However, despite having the odds heavily stacked against them, the Red Devils produced a spirited performance to keep Liverpool at bay.

In truth, United were helped by Liverpool’s misfiring attack, with captain Virgil van Dijk admitting decision making had to be better.

During his analysis on BBC’s Match of the Day 2, former Newcastle United and England striker Shearer criticised United’s Brazilian winger Antony.

He said: “On the right-hand side you've got Antony, he would do my nut in playing with him because you know 99.9 per cent of the time he's coming inside on that left foot.

“Not only do the defenders know, so they can then set themselves.”

Shearer continued: “On the odd occasion if he did go down on the right-hand side it might make it a little bit more difficult, but for a centre-forward, it doesn't half make it very difficult when he's doing that.”

Antony became United’s record signing when he left Ajax for Old Trafford in a deal worth a reported £82 million back in 2022.

However, the winger has so far failed to live up to expectations and has recorded zero goals and zero assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.

United boss Ten Hag praised Antony during his post-match press conference, the Dutchman said: “He has a lot more [that he can give], but that [effort] is what you should do every game, and he has to prove that every game.

“But I think that goes for me, that goes for the whole team: we have to do it every game. We have a good squad, a good team, and we can make something out of this season.”

United will be back in Premier League action this weekend as they take on West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
