Erik ten Hag caused an almighty confusion whilst speaking to the media ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen.

On Monday afternoon, the Dutchman was asked to give an update on his squad ahead of the match.

Ten Hag said: “Yes we hope [to have players back in injury]. Sergio trained all week, today he will train, then we have to assess if he is game fit or can be available for the squad.”

However, people watching on a live stream thought Ten Hag said ‘Sancho’ instead of ‘Sergio’(Reguillon). You can watch the footage below.

This led to many thinking winger Jadon Sancho was back in the first-team fold at United despite the ongoing public feud with Ten Hag.

Back in September, Sancho was left out of the squad to face Arsenal as Ten Hag publicly criticised the Englishman's performances in training.

Sancho then released a statement of his own to deny Ten Hag's claims. Since then, the 23-year-old has reportedly refused to apologise to the manager and as a result, has been 'completely exiled' from the club's first team fold.

The Manchester Evening News have since confirmed that Ten Hag in fact said 'Sergio' and not 'Sancho'.

MEN journalist Samuel Luckhurst wrote: “Ten Hag definitely said 'Sergio', not 'Sancho' in response to my question on team news. It sounded like he said 'Sancho' but club confirmed he was referring to Reguilon.”

When asked about Sancho prior to United’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United on Saturday, Ten Hag said: “Everything has been said about him.”
