Erik ten Hag tipped for Ajax return amid claims Man United dressing room has turned 'toxic'

Erik ten Hag tipped for Ajax return amid claims Man United dressing room has turned 'toxic'

Erik ten Hag has endured a tough start to the season with Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has been tipped to make a sensational return to Ajax amid Manchester United’s poor current form.

After a summer of investment which resulted in the permanent signings of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, United were expected to challenge right at the top of the Premier League.

However, it has been another tough start to the season for Ten Hag and his players as they have only managed to collect nine points from their opening seven league matches.

In the Champions League, United have lost their opening two group stage matches against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

As a result, Ten Hag’s future has been questioned and the odds on him being sacked have recently been slashed.

There have also been reports that Ten Hag is beginning to lose the dressing room as the mood is starting to become ‘toxic’.

Now, the Dutchman has been tipped to make a return to his former club Ajax if he is dismissed by United.

Speaking to ESPN’s Voetbalpraat, via the Metro, former Ajax striker Kenneth Perez said: “Imagine if Erik ten Hag were fired, would it be very crazy for Ajax to ask him back?

“Manchester United is known for the fact that things can get difficult if things don’t go well. Then it’s not a crazy idea, is it?”

Journalist Willem Vissers added: “I think that in the end it just won’t work, that whole project of his there. I don’t think he will be a coach there for much longer.”

After Tuesday night’s error-filled performance against Turkish champions Galatasaray, Ten Hag was asked if he feared for his future.

He said: “Last season: brilliant, terrific, more than we could expect but also when we went into this project we knew there would be common gaps and in this moment we are in a very difficult period, as everyone can see.

“But we come out together, we are fighting together, we are sticking together, behind each other, it's me, the directors, the team, all together, we will fight and this is not us. We know we have to do better and in togetherness we will come out.”

United are back in Premier League action this weekend as they host Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
