Man United made history against Aston Villa and nobody even noticed

Manchester United made history against Aston Villa on Sunday and yet nobody really noticed.

The Red Devils recorded a third consecutive win, with Scott McTominay coming off the bench to pop up with the winner.

Rasmus Hojlund had opened the scoring with his 11th goal of the season, before Douglas Luiz levelled matters.

McTominay was the hero, though Harry Maguire was named Man of the Match after an impressive defensive display.

But it was a Premier League first for United at Villa Park as though made a kit decision which has not been seen since 1957.

United were wearing their white away strip, which normally has white shorts and white socks.

However there was deemed to be a kit clash as Villa also had white shorts.

It meant that United had to wear red shorts, something they first did 67 years ago for both European Cup semi-final fixtures against the mighty Real Madrid.

Until then, United had never worn red shorts and it's believed the decision was what prompted Liverpool to start playing in all red.

As per UnitedKits.com, it was first tested in a league game against Bolton Wanderers.

In all three games, United were wearing their red home kit and so they had never worn red shorts with a white shirt until this term.

United wore the red shorts with their alternate strip against Galatasaray in the thrilling 3-3 Champions League draw back in November.

The Red Devils return to action next Sunday when they host Luton Town at Old Trafford.
