Fans have been reacting on social media after hearing what Ruben Dias said on the back of Manchester City's draw against Southampton.

On Saturday afternoon, Pep Guardiola's men travelled to the St. Mary's Stadium looking to cement their place in the top five with a win over already relegated Southampton.

However, the Saints produced a spirited display as they managed to hold City to a 0-0 draw.

The draw meant Southampton moved onto 12 points, meaning they are no longer statistically the joint worst team in Premier League history.

Meanwhile, City remain third in the table, two points behind Arsenal.

Speaking after the match, City star Dias slammed Southampton's performance.

He said: "In a moment like this, every point matters and it’s obviously frustrating to play against a team like this.

"They don’t even try anything, they just sit and don’t even want to win the game, they just want to be there. And it’s not good for the show, it’s not good for themselves, it’s not good for anyone. But it is what it is."

Dias continued: "The funny thing is we do what [Aaron] Ramsdale did once and straight away it’s a yellow card, he does it 20 times and it’s just play on.

"And obviously this slows the game and it just helps them consistently… But anyway, we had our chances, we tried to get in, tried to be versatile, tried to be flexible, that’s our job. But it was not easy to get in.

"We’re used to this kind of adversity but normally the other team is at least trying to win, or trying to play. Today was quite the opposite and there was not even a sparkle of them trying to do anything. They were just sitting around. And obviously it makes it more difficult to get in."

Safe to say Dias' comments did not go down well, reacting on social media, one fan said: "Stop crying man."

Another tweeted: "Criticising little Southampton for defending well against your billion pounds squad that was not able to create a single good chance, well that is classless."

A third fan added: "This is exactly the mentality I’d prefer not to see."

Someone else wrote: "Salty or what? Southampton are bottom of the table!!"

A fifth commented: "You’re embarrassing."

Another fan said: "Yes, they’re supposed to play expansive football and open themselves up to concede 4 or 5 to your billion pound squad. Cry more."

City are back in action next weekend when they take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
