Premier League confirm 'date set' for Man City's FFP case as rivals await points deduction outcome

A date is set.

Premier League chief Richard Masters has confirmed that a date has been set for Manchester City's hearing into their 115 alleged breaches of financial rules.

City were charged by the Premier League in February for breaches in multiple areas, including allegedly failing to provide the correct financial information and failing to co-operate with an investigation.

A range of sanctions are possible if City are found guilty of any breaches, including a points deduction or expulsion from the top division.

Following the announcement of the charges, City posted a club statement in which they denied any wrongdoing, and confirmed that they would 'robustly' defend themselves.

Information since then has been rather scarce, but Masters has confirmed on Tuesday that a long-anticipated date for the club's hearing has now been set.

Speaking to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee at a Select Committee hearing, Masters was asked about whether he understood fan frustrations surrounding the slow process involving City, in comparison to new charges announced against Everton and Nottingham Forest: "I can, but they are very different charges.

"If any club, whether they are the current champions or otherwise, had been found in breach of the spending rules for year '23, they would be in exactly the same position as Everton or Nottingham Forest.

"The volume and character of the same charges laid before Man City, which I cannot talk about at all, are being heard in a completely different environment.

"There is a date set for that proceeding. Unfortunately, I can't tell you when that is but that is progressing.

"I can't give any details on Man City beyond saying a date has been set, I can't tell you when that date is."

Masters also commented on allegations made against Chelsea surrounding the transfers of Willian and Samuel Eto'o, which were completed under the ownership of Roman Abramovich in 2013.

He said: "On Chelsea, as you know, the new owners came forward with information to the FA, UEFA and Premier League about previous ownership and we're still investigating that.

"We don't announce the outcome of that until we have completed those investigations."
