Fans left horrified by Matheus Nunes’ injury during Man City vs Copenhagen

Matheus Nunes suffered an injury during Manchester City’s Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen.

Fans have been left horrified by Matheus Nunes’ injury during Manchester City’s match against FC Copenhagen.

On Wednesday night, City welcomed Copenhagen to the Etihad Stadium looking to protect their 3-1 advantage from the first leg.

Pep Guardiola’s men went 2-0 up inside 10 minutes thanks to goals by Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez.

Mohamed Elyounoussi made it 2-1 in the 29th minute before Erling Haaland scored City’s third just before the interval.

In the second half, Nunes was substituted after suffering a horrible injury to his finger.

The Portuguese was replaced by Micah Hamilton with 74 minutes on the clock.

Reacting to Nunes’ injury, one fan said on social media: “Oh my f**king god Nunes’s finger…”

Another tweeted: “How can I mute a picture? I’ve seen that Nunes photo enough.”

A third fan added: “THAT VIEW OF NUNES’ FINGER. OH MY GOD THAT WAS HORRIBLE.”

Someone else wrote: “OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO NUNES’ FINGER.”

A fifth commented: “Oh my god Nunes that's horrific.”

City eventually held on to win 3-1 on the night and 6-2 on aggregate as their defence of the Champions League continues.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former England and Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said: “A really comfortable night for Manchester City. The game was never in jeopardy because of the first leg.

“This is my only downside with Pep Guardiola. He's got three youngsters on the bench and it's the perfect chance to put them on the pitch and give them some game time.”

On the same night, Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid also sealed their place in the last eight after a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid went through 2-1 on aggregate.

City will now be focused on this weekend’s mouth-watering Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
