Joao Cancelo has been branded "salty" by Manchester City fans after one of the decisions he made in a blind-ranking player challenge.

The Portugal international is still a City player, having been loaned out to Barcelona for the season.

After being unhappy with his game-time, Cancelo spent the second part of City's 2022/23 treble-winning campaign at Bayern Munich and came up against his parent club in the Champions League quarter-final.

He was booed by some City fans when he came on as a substitute at the Etihad Stadium.

And his rapport with a large section of the fanbase has taken another hit following a video doing the rounds.

Cancelo took part in a blind-ranking challenge where he had to place ten random footballers in a list.

Plenty of players have had a go and inevitably some of their choices are not going to go down well.

Yet in the video for @shootforloveworld, Cancelo has caused a stir as he immediately put City defender Josko Gvardiol tenth on the list without any hesitation.

He did not have any ideas which players were coming next and eventually ended up with Thiago Silva as his number one selection.

Although he is a centre-back by trade, Gvardiol has effectively replaced Cancelo at left-back and scored four goals in his last seven appearances - including a stunning double at Fulham.

The Croatian is thriving as Pep Guardiola's latest experiment but Cancelo's placement of him prompted plenty of reaction.

One wrote: "This guy's so salty mahn, didn't even hesitate to put GVARDIOL last."

A second added: "He took it personal."

A third commented: "Sorry you're not good enough for city, Doesn't mean you have to be salty about it."

Another claimed: "He hates City and Pep it's obvious."

A final person stated: "Unfortunate he was given the UCL medal but glad he's gone now."

Cancelo still has a contract with City until 2027 but is extremely unlikely to play for the club again.
