Luka Modric has offered his verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo's explosive statement, and the legendary Croatian has expressed a clear wish for his former Real Madrid teammate.
Ronaldo exited Portugal's international camp on Wednesday (September 30) after manager Jorge Jesus decided against playing him in their 2-1 victory over Norway.
A clear-the-air meeting was later held between Ronaldo and Jesus, as well as Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença, before the 41-year-old confirmed his departure on social media.

Luka Modric wants Cristiano Ronaldo to have a proper send-off with Portugal
In the statement he released online last week, Ronaldo said he would detail "the reasons" that motivated him to leave the training camp.

On Tuesday (October 6), the Al-Nassr forward then dropped a lengthy statement, explaining how Jesus breached his trust on numerous occasions.
The main issue was the manager telling him he would not be a part of the travelling cohort for the trips to Norway and Denmark. Ronaldo rejected that stance as "it would not set a good example" for his teammates.
The former Real Madrid superstar said he was also asked to consider retiring from international football and wanted "one or more farewell matches" before issuing an apology to the "Portuguese people".
For leaving the camp without permission, Ronaldo is facing a potential ban ranging from one to six months, but former Los Blancos teammate Luka Modric wants him to return and have a proper farewell with the national team.
Modric, who shared the pitch with Ronaldo on 222 occasions at the Santiago Bernabeu, offered his verdict after a 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Nations League on Tuesday night.
"No, no, I haven’t spoken to him. It’s difficult for me to say anything because I don’t know exactly what happened. I haven’t followed the situation too closely because I have my own problems here," the 41-year-old said.
"It’s sad to see this happening to him in his own country. I don’t know exactly what happened, but I hope the situation gets resolved. Because Cristiano is the greatest player in the history of Portugal, and he deserves another farewell and another ending with the national team."
"Still, I think they will find a solution, because Cris deserves, whether he retires or decides not to continue with the national team, to have a great farewell that reflects what he deserves," he added.

Jorge Jesus responds to Cristiano Ronaldo statement
When asked about his thoughts on Ronaldo's statement, Jesus was tight-lipped on the situation, having seemingly not read what the five-time Ballon d'Or winner wrote.
"I was in Leiria watching the Portugal U21 national team match. And now I will read the statement. I have nothing to say," he told reporters.
Ronaldo has placed himself in a difficult position, as his actions have left a nation divided on their greatest ever player.
In an ideal world, the 41-year-old would return for one final game, allowing his adoring fans to give him the send-off he deserves.
Lionel Messi experienced that during his final game for Argentina - a 3-0 victory over Benin - but it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo is willing to sweep his anger under the carpet and rebuild a seemingly broken relationship with Jesus.
