Luka Modric, the six-time Champions League winner with a Ballon d'Or to his name, is being linked with a move that could end up being one of the most extraordinary deals of the summer.
Earlier this month, the 39-year-old midfielder announced he will leave Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Modric, who will remain at Los Blancos until the end of the Club World Cup, recently became an investor and co-owner at Championship side Swansea City – and is reportedly purchasing a five-bedroom house worth over £1 million in the Welsh city.

Despite this, the Croatian has no plans to retire from professional football. In fact, Spanish publication Relevo claim Modric has offers from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer ahead of the new campaign.
But in an unexpected twist, rumours have emerged of an audacious transfer to Scottish Premiership side Rangers, who have held talks with former Real Madrid coach Davide Ancelotti, the son of Carlo, over becoming their next boss.

A report from the BBC suggests Ancelotti is currently top of their managerial shortlist and a resolution "can be reached in the coming days" following talks.

Guillem Balague goes on claim that the 35-year-old was widely credited by players as "the architect of many modern improvements". In fact, some believe Carlo wouldn't have enjoyed as much success had it not been for his son.
Such was his influence, Davide is said to have asked Modric whether he would be interested in joining him at Rangers in the future, and he didn't say no to the prospect of joining one of Scotland's biggest clubs.
That's right. Modric did not rule out a move to Ibrox.
"Whether or not that's realistic, it shows the kind of gravitational pull Davide carries," wrote Balague, who added: "Other players have also asked Ancelotti to take them to Scotland."
Despite turning 40 next year, Modric has no plans to call it a day. Croatian outlet 24sata claim the midfielder wants to play at the 2026 World Cup for his country should they qualify – and wants to be in 'optimal form' for the tournament.
