A touching video seems to explain Virgil van Dijk's trademark celebration.

Van Dijk inspired Liverpool to Carabao Cup glory as his side beat Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium last weekend.

He headed home the match winner in the 118th minute after the showdown went to extra-time.

After converting Kostas Tsimikas' corner kick, Van Dijk celebrated in typical fashion.

The Liverpool captain performed his 'chin wave' celebration as he appeared to direct it at someone in the crowd.

What's the meaning behind the celebration?

Well, according to a video on TikTok, it's a tribute to his young daughter, Nila.

A video shows Nila doing Van Dijk's 'chin wave' celebration - which the star defender has done every time he scores a goal.

Van Dijk's daughter would have been in attendance at Wembley Stadium as he appeared to direct his celebration at her in a wholesome moment.

Asked how much Liverpool's Carabao Cup triumph meant, the 32-year-old replied: "So much. All the young boys on the pitch, in extra time. It's incredible, I'm so proud of the team.

"Intense game for both sides, they had chances we had chances. Amazing. First trophy as Liverpool captain, it's all for the fans so let's enjoy it."

On his winning goal, he added: "It's emotion, it's everything I am so proud of the boys. All of the young boys playing their part in what we achieved today it's incredible and on to more."

On savouring the moment with Jurgen Klopp, Van Dijk said: "You should always savour the good moments, this is definitely one of them.

"Listen, we will never take things for granted and you see today it could have been the other was as well that we lost but we did a job, even with all the problems we have had before the game. I'm so proud, proud to be part of this club and especially proud of the boys."
