Virgil van Dijk no longer deemed ‘untouchable’ as European giants eye move for Liverpool captain

A European giant is interested in signing Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool don't deem their captain 'untouchable' anymore.

Virgil van Dijk looked set to end his career at Liverpool with his contract set to expire at the end of this upcoming campaign; however, it appears the previously ‘untouchable’ Dutch international may be allowed to leave the club this summer for the right offer.

The 34-year-old appeared to be the final piece in Liverpool’s jigsaw when he signed for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, as the club would go on to win a Champions League and a Premier League under the stewardship of the German following his signing from Southampton.

Once Klopp moved on from Anfield, Van Dijk’s impact remained as he lifted the Premier League title under new manager Arne Slot in 2025.

However, since that trophy, the almost impassable Van Dijk’s powers have begun to wane, and so Liverpool may be willing to cash in on their captain if the right offer were to be tabled.

That is according to reports in TEAMtalk, and it appears he may have several clubs interested in making him part of their squads for next season, including one of Europe’s great teams.

Liverpool appear to be building for a new era under Andoni Iraola, and this has seen several of the key stars under Klopp leave Anfield, including Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, so the exit of Van Dijk would not be inconceivable.

Seven-time Champions League winners AC Milan are said to be interested, as former Manchester United manager Rubin Amorim believes he would be a ‘dream signing’ for the Italian giants.

While Milan may want to bring the Dutch international to northern Italy, they are not the only major European team interested in bringing him to their club.

The two major clubs in Turkey, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, are interested in bringing Van Dijk to Istanbul for the upcoming season.

There is also interest from teams in other continents, as clubs with the Saudi Pro League and within Major League Soccer are monitoring his situation.

It must be stated that the report has made it clear that the Reds are not actively looking to push Van Dijk out the door of Anfield, and this is not the intention of new boss Iraola; however, if the correct offer were to be tabled, Liverpool would consider it.
