Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk voiced his anger with Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana in the tunnel after full-time following their goalless draw at Anfield.

Liverpool dominated large periods of the game but were unable to break down Erik ten Hag’s side, who produced a spirited performance away from home without several key players.

United had Diogo Dalot sent off for an unusual double booking for dissent late in the game but were able to hang on for a point.

After the match, Van Dijk claimed Liverpool were “superior” in all areas and were the only team trying to win the match.

"We had most of the ball and created most of the opportunities. There was only one team trying to win," Van Dijk told Sky Sports.

"Unfortunately it didn't happen. That is why it is frustrating because we want to win every game. Especially when you play against a team like them."

Former United captain Roy Keane took exception to Van Dijk's comments, branding the Liverpool skipper "arrogant" and "disrespectful".

"There's a lot of arrogance coming out of him, dissing Manchester United like that," Keane said.

"He needs reminding that he is playing for a club that has won one title in 30-odd years.

"Manchester United are in a difficult place, just like Liverpool have been in a difficult place for many years. So maybe that arrogance backfired on him today."

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook claims Van Dijk aimed a dig at Onana following the full-time whistle.

Crook posted on X: "Virgil van Dijk to Onana in the tunnel. 'because of you we only played a half hour game.'

"Onana responds with a smile."

United remain seventh in the Premier League table after the draw at Anfield and are now six points off the top four.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are now second - one point behind new league leaders Arsenal, who beat Brighton 2-0 earlier in the day.
