One England player might has swung Trent Alexander-Arnold's decision on his Liverpool future during Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate's use of Trent Alexander-Arnold - and then subsequent non-use - kept the Liverpool stars name permanently in the headlines throughout England's run to the Euro 2024 final.

The tournament may have finished, but the 25-year-old is likely to rename a topic of conversation for a while longer.

That's because Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool contract is set to expire next summer, and at present he has not committed to signing a new deal.

Liverpool and new manager Arne Slot are desperate to keep their academy graduate, who was blooded into the first team by Jurgen Klopp aged 18 in 2016 and has been a key first team player ever since.

If Liverpool cannot persuade him to sign a new contract, then the full-back will leave the club as a free agent in June 2025.

Pretty much any manager in world football would love to have Alexander-Arnold in their side, so it's no surprise that Real Madrid are interested.

In fact, it looks like Los Blancos star Jude Bellingham has been doing their bidding for them during Euro 2024.

According to the Independent, Bellingham developed a strong friendship with Alexander-Arnold during the tournament.

The duo got on so well that figures around the squad reportedly were left wondering whether Bellingham could 'swing' Alexander-Arnold's decision about his future and persuade him to join Madrid next summer when his contract runs out.

The reigning European champions are are always on the lookout for star players who available as free agents; David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger have both arrived under those circumstances in recent years, while Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies could join them if he decides not to stay in Bavaria beyond next summer.

Carlo Ancelotti's starting right-back is Dani Carvajal, but at 32-years-old he is approaching the end of his elite-level career.

Signing Alexander-Arnold would future proof the right side of Madrid's defence for years to come.
