Steven Gerrard named the one striker he rated higher than Luis Suarez.
Suarez and Gerrard have been very public in their appreciation of one another, having played together at Liverpool between 2011 and 2014.
Suarez has acknowledged Gerrard’s influence on his career and described the Liverpool legend as “one of the absolute best”. Gerrard, meanwhile, has been deeply complimentary when asked about Suarez’s ability.

Indeed, when asked to choose between Suarez and a spate of his peers, including Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane and current Liverpool great Mohamed Salah, Gerrard selected the Uruguay star.
Indeed, the only player that Gerrard selected over Suarez was Real Madrid’s 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.
Former France international Benzema has netted over 500 goals in his career, and won some 25 trophies with Los Blancos, including four La Liga crowns, three Copa del Reys and five Champions Leagues.

Nevertheless, Gerrard gas previously stated that Suarez was the best player he played alongside in his 17 years at Liverpool.
Gerrard wrote in his 2015 biography My Story: “It’s always difficult to pick out the very best teammates in a career stretching across seventeen seasons but, when I think about it, the answers soon become clear.
“Four players stand out in my time at Liverpool and with England. The first three all helped me become a better player. They all speak Spanish. Each of them unleashes a wave of emotion in me and in every Liverpool supporter.
“But, ultimately, Luis stands out. He ran and pressed and fought for the ball and ran again – while producing extraordinary moves and sublime goals. There was a sustained period when playing with Luis was like being under a magical spell. He blew me away with his talent.

“I would have loved to have played with Luis when I was a lot younger, and peaking, as we could have been phenomenal together for years. That’s my only tinge of regret with Suarez.
“He doesn’t go into the treatment room. He’s a proper warrior. Suarez edges ahead of Fernando Torres because of that mentality, that robustness which means he doesn’t miss a session, or a game. He scores goals. He creates goals. He’s hard and horrible to play against. He’s right up for it. You’ve got a chance of beating anyone in the world with Luis Suarez in your team.”
