Steven Gerrard has picked out the four best players he played with for Liverpool and England.

Gerrard, 45, is one of the greatest players in the history of English football.

During a career that spanned over 17 years, Gerrard made 710 appearances across all competitions for boyhood club Liverpool, scoring 185 goals.

The midfielder lifted the Champions League and the FA Cup, among other trophies.

In 2015, Gerrard left Liverpool for LA Galaxy before retiring from professional football in 2016.

On the international stage, Gerrard was capped 114 times by England, scoring 21 goals in the process.

Despite playing with some of the best players the game has had to offer, Gerrard picked the four stars that stood out.

In the book titled 'Steven Gerrard - My Story', the former Reds skipper named Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney as the best players he played with during his career.

Gerrard said: "It's always difficult to pick out the very best teammates in a career across 17 seasons, but when I think about it, the answer soon becomes clear, four players stand out during my time with Liverpool and England.

"The first three all helped me become a better player. They all speak Spanish, and each of them unleashes a wave of emotion in me and in every Liverpool supporter. Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Luis Suarez."

He continued: "Wayne Rooney, another Scouser but a Blue Nose, an Evertonian who moved in 2004 from Goodison Park to Old Trafford, deserves to be bracketed alongside them.

"There have been training sessions and games with England when Wayne has shown that same gift and desire. Alonso, Torres, Suarez and Rooney.

"Barcelona showcased Lionel Messi, Neymar and Suarez as an attacking front line, maybe I can have my own fantasy team of Alonso and Gerrard in midfield in the heat of the battle, with Suarez, Torres and Rooney up front."

Gerrard went on to admit that Suarez 'blew him away' and claimed that Torres was the closest any Liverpool players got in terms of matching the Uruguayan's qualities.
