Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard shared his thoughts on Arne Slot following the 3-0 Champions League win over Marseille.

On Wednesday night, Liverpool finally picked up their second win of 2026 as they comfortably beat Ligue 1 side Marseille in a Champions League clash inside the Stade Velodrome.

The result comes as pressure continues to mount on Liverpool manager Slot following recent disappointing performances in the Premier League against the likes of Leeds United, Fulham and Burnley.

This pressure has only increased in recent days following Real Madrid's decision to sack former manager and Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso, who has since been tipped as a potential replacement for Slot.

In their latest Premier League performance, Liverpool drew 1-1 with Burnley at Anfield on January 17, their sixth draw in their ongoing 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

As it stands, the reigning Premier League champions sit fourth on the table but are closer to Leeds in 16th than league leaders Arsenal, who are currently 14 points ahead of them.

Meanwhile Liverpool are fourth in the Champions League standings, with a win over Azerbaijani side Qarabag FK at Anfield next week guaranteeing them a spot in the top four.

Speaking after the latest win, Gerrard claimed that Slot's performance under the pressure over his future showed his resilience, calling for the Liverpool manager to be given more praise for the important victory.

"I’m really pleased for him. It can’t be easy when you’re under that pressure. His tactics were spot on tonight. "He deserves a lot of praise and credit," Gerrard claimed post-match on TNT Sports.

However, Gerrard added that Slot's recent tendency to discuss facing a low block as being a problem needs to stop, claiming: "He needs to stop mentioning low blocks. Low blocks have been happening against Liverpool since I was playing. That’s just the way it is."

The former Liverpool captain called on Slot and the current squad to use the momentum from the result to build up some more consistent form and pick up some crucial wins in the Premier League.

He added: "I don't think we doubt Liverpool in terms of being able to handle an atmosphere, they've got experienced players who won the league, won the Champions League and competed for the Champions League."

"It's consistency now for Liverpool, It is about consistency when you are a Liverpool player, and now they've got to reset and recover properly and take this same mentality to Bournemouth and you won't have a problem at Bournemouth."
