Liverpool fans were shocked after one player put in an outstanding performance in their 4-1 victory over Sevilla in pre season.

Arne Slot's first match at Anfield since becoming Liverpool manager took place on Sunday as his side took on Sevilla in a pre season friendly.

The Dutch manager named a strong side for the fixture, with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah all starting the match.

But, one player in particular stood out to Liverpool fans and it is not who you might expect.

Writing on X, one Liverpool fan said: "Gravenberch really impressing in the 6 yet again 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼"

Another added: "Ryan Gravenberch has fit into this Arne Slot team like a glove, finally able to showcase his strength and ball playing ability!"

While one pointed out that such a performance might cause Liverpool to have second thoughts about reported top transfer target Martin Zubimendi, writing: "I refuse to speak about Gravenberch's performance at CDM this preseason. I'm afraid if we keep complimenting him publicly Michael Edwards won't go out and get us Zubimendi."

Ryan Gravenberch joined Liverpool last summer but struggled to find a solid place in Jurgen Klopp's starting lineup.

But, under Slot, this could all change as the Merseyside club's style of play appears to be completely different.

Gravenberch made 38 appearances for Liverpool last season, scoring four goals and registering two assists.

However, in his new role in a double pivot midfield, the Dutchman thrived, boasting completing 53 out of 56 attempted passes, a 95% success rate, winning 60% of his ground duals and creating one big chance.

He was a central part to Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Spanish side Sevilla, where Diogo Jota and Trey Nyoni each found the back of the net and Luis Diaz scored a brace.

That being said, if Liverpool successfully complete the transfer of Zubimendi, it is likely that the 22-year-old will likely be relegated back to the bench, but with Wataru Endo seemingly out of favour, he can expect much more game time this season.

Liverpool will play another friendly today at Anfield, as they take on another La Liga side, Las Palmas, at 5pm.
