Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente referenced the Chemtrail conspiracy theory before travelling to England for the club's Champions League group stage clash against Liverpool.
For those unaware, the Chemtrail conspiracy theory is a belief that long-lasting condensation trails left behind by planes are not just water vapour and ice crystals, but chemical or biological agents deliberately sprayed into the atmosphere.
Those who believe in the theory argue that these so-called 'chemicals' could be intended for purposes which are undisclosed to the general public, such as weather control, climate engineering, and even population control.
Llorente, who scored two goals against Liverpool on Wednesday night, appeared to reference the Chemtrail conspiracy ahead of this week's Champions League group stage game.

Taking to Instagram, the midfielder commented on a picture of several Getafe players celebrating Mario Martín's goal in their La Liga clash against Real Oviedo on Saturday, saying: "Fumigation on channel 2".
As seen in the image below, which was part of a carousel of several pictures, the players celebrated next to a trail in the sky left behind by an aircraft.

Llorente and his wife, Patricia Noarbe, have seemingly referenced the theory on a number of occasions in the past.

As per Spanish publication Marca, the 30-year-old has previously posted a video on his Instagram showing several plane trails, which was accompanied by the caption: "Enough is enough."
Noarbe also appeared to share her thoughts on the theory.
Alongside a picture of plane trails, she wrote: “And how many flights today? If you continue thinking that this condensation from commercial flights instead of bioengineering, it’s because you don’t even want to look at the sky, nor the BOE/AEMET or the OMM [weather forecasters].”
There is no evidence that contrails cause health problems.

At the altitude where contrails are produced, the oxides of nitrogen and particulate matter which can cause respiratory problems become dispersed, as per Gov.uk.

What are contrails?
Contrails form when the warm moist exhaust fumes from an aircraft mixes with the cold ambient air producing ice crystal clouds. The nuclei of some of the ice crystals in a contrail will contain minute products of combustion, but they are essentially ice.
