Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool have contacted Southampton over Romeo Lavia after private plane transfer clue

Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool have contacted Southampton over Romeo Lavia after private plane transfer clue

Liverpool have reportedly made an approach for the midfielder.

Liverpool have made an approach for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Jurgen Klopp has already signed midfield duo Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a combined £95 million this summer.

However, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho expected to depart Anfield for Saudi Arabia this summer, the Reds boss is in desperate need of reinforcements.

Ryan Gravenberch, Cheick Doucoure and Sofyan Amrabat had all been touted as potential options for the club in recent weeks.

But Liverpool look to have taken a significant step in their pursuit of Lavia, after Romano confirmed they had approached Southampton to discuss a move.

What did Romano say?

On Monday afternoon, Romano shared the news that Liverpool had been in contact with the Championship club in a tweet which read: "Understand Liverpool have approached Southampton for Roméo Lavia — talks on player side have been ongoing for more than one month.

"Jason Wilcox is leading talks now for Southampton and insists on £50m package deal.

"Lavia remains one of the top candidates on Liverpool's list."

The update comes shortly after fans thought they spotted a potential transfer clue involving a private plane that travelled to the club’s training camp in Germany last week.

In addition, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Lavia has now "agreed on personal terms" with the Reds, despite growing a "little annoyed" that Liverpool were taking so long with their approach.
