Odds Slashed on Premier League Manager to Replace Arne Slot at Liverpool

A current Premier League manager is the favourite to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool if the Dutchman is sacked.

Liverpool suffered their sixth defeat in seven matches on Wednesday, losing 3-0 at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Ismaila Sarr scored a first-half brace at Anfield for the Eagles, with Yeremy Pino adding a third on 89 minutes to cap off a miserable evening for Reds fans.

Slot's side ended the game with 10 players as 18-year-old Amara Nallo was sent off 11 minutes after being brought on as a substitute.

Slot selected an inexperienced Liverpool side, making 10 changes from Saturday's 3-2 Premier League loss at Brentford.

The Dutchman cited Liverpool's upcoming run of fixtures as the reasoning behind his decision, but the selection or performance did little to ease recent criticism of the Reds boss.

The club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, have only sacked three managers - and none since 2015 - since taking over in 2010 and, having delivered a Premier League title last season, there is no indication that Slot is under serious pressure right now.

However, should a change be made, a very familiar face to Liverpool fans is being tipped as the favourite to take over.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the 3/1 bookmakers' favourite to replace Slot at Anfield.

Palace have beaten Liverpool three times this season - once in the Community Shield and in the Premier League before Wednesday.

Glasner was linked with the Manchester United job earlier this year before their upturn in form under Ruben Amorim.

The Austrian is notably in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, meaning Liverpool would have to pay lower compensation than they might expect for a manager of his calibre.

Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola, who has transformed the Cherries since being appointed in June 2023, is second favourite for the job.

Iraola's side are currently second in the Premier League after Sunday's 2-0 home win over struggling Nottingham Forest.

Zinedine Zidane, meanwhile, is priced at 9/2 but has previously expressed doubts about moving to England as he does not yet speak fluent English.

Jurgen Klopp is at 9/1 to seal a return to Liverpool in what would be a surprise move.

Jose Mourinho is a much greater 25/1 to join Liverpool, 21 years after he was first targeted for the role before joining Chelsea, but was appointed as Benfica boss last month.

Liverpool next manager odds

The full list of odds are below (current managerial/coaching role listed):

  • Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace) - 3/1
  • Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) - 4/1
  • Zinedine Zidane (Unattached) - 9/2
  • Julian Nagelsmann (Germany) - 7/1
  • Jurgen Klopp (Red Bull, global head of football) - 9/1
  • Pep Lijnders (Manchester City, assistant) - 10/1
  • Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) - 16/1
  • Jose Mourinho (Benfica) - 25/1
