Liverpool fans think Mo Salah has aimed hidden dig at Darwin Nunez ahead of crucial Man City clash

Liverpool fans think Mohamed Salah has indirectly aimed a 'dig' at Darwin Nunez ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Salah scored and assisted once during Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

The result took the Reds eight points clear at the top of the Premier League ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who now have a game in hand.

But the defining moment in the game occurred in the second half, when Nunez missed an open goal from yards out.

He did strike the ball high on the bounce which may have been a contributing factor behind why he missed, but it was another unfortunate moment for a forward who hasn't had huge amounts of success in front of goal this season.

Manager Arne Slot defended him after the match, telling reporters: "I think we are all disappointed, but it's normal that a player who misses a chance like this is always a bit more disappointed than the rest."

Salah, meanwhile, is not usually one for public statements after matches on social media, preferring to instead post still images from the match.

He did so again on Twitter on Thursday evening, before adding a picture of him looking disappointed during the match to his Instagram story.

It is perhaps difficult to read too much into the post other than Salah's disappointment that Liverpool were unable to pick up all three points - having had other chances besides Nunez's opportunity in the second half.

But fans have come up with a theory about the post.

One fan wrote: "Look at the pictures he's posting man he's sick and tired..."

A second said: "We have let him down year after year."

A third added: "He's tired of being let down."

And a fourth stated: "He's single-handedly dragging us to a Premier League title whilst those around are letting us down, s**t's tiring."
