Premier League legend Cesc Fabregas has named the one manager who should replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Klopp delivered an emotional message last month as he revealed his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.

The German has enjoyed a stunning spell at Anfield following his appointment from Borussia Dortmund, notably winning the Premier League and Champions League during his time at the club.

Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim and Zinedine Zidane are among the names thought to be on Liverpool's managerial shortlist.

But Fabregas, who played for Arsenal and Chelsea during his stellar stint in England's top flight, has backed fellow countryman Xabi Alonso to take charge of the Merseyside outfit.

Speaking on BBC's Planet Premier League podcast via Metro, he said: "He’s a very intelligent guy. He’s been up there. He’s done it all and he knows the standards that are being set at Liverpool.

"The crowd love him and also I think he’s a really good coach. He’s got good ideas.

"Maybe he plays slightly differently but I think he’s got adaptability. I saw him around when he was the coach of Real Sociedad B, then now at Bayer Leverkusen."

Fabregas praised Alonso's mentality as he believes the former Liverpool midfielder is the right man to replace Klopp ahead of next season.

"He does different things. He’s capable of adapting to the situation and to different types of players he’s got and he’s got the right mentality," he added.

"He’s young, but the good thing about him is that he’s got very clear ideas. He’s an intelligent, stable guy and has the right personality.

"So, it’s a big shout, but I agree that he [would be] able to do it."

Alonso spent five seasons at Liverpool and was part of the club's famous Champions League-winning side that beat AC Milan in 2005.

The 42-year-old is currently working managerial wonders at Leverkusen as they sit at the top of the Bundesliga.
