Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving Liverpool and eagle-eyed fans on social media have spotted that there's a significant difference in tone between the club's communications around Alexander-Arnold's departure and the send-off given to another star player.
Liverpool sold Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich in 2022, relatively fresh from winning the Champions League and the Premier League as part of the Anfield club's famous front three with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.
While Virgil van Dijk and Salah committed to new deals before the end of the 2024-25 season, Alexander-Arnold confirmed on Monday that he will be leaving the club on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old is widely expected to sign for Real Madrid as part of a major summer recruitment drive at the Bernabeu and Reds fans online wasted no time in expressing their disgust after Alexander-Arnold's two decades at the club came to an end.
LFC Transfer Room on X, formerly Twitter, noticed that the tone of Liverpool's post sharing the right-back's comments was quite different to Mane's equivalent.
Notwithstanding the possibility that two posts three years apart might have been written in different styles or even by different people, the sentiment gap between "Trent Alexander-Arnold’s interview" and "Liverpool legend Sadio Mane – reflecting on six special years" is indeed noticeable if you whack a starry-eyed emoji in the Mane version.

"There would be quite the element of surprise when I told you who was the scouser and who was from Senegal based on their demeanour in this video," theorised one fan on X.
"Mane is a legend. Trent is a rat," parped another.
"All I am seeing is a legend and a rat, guess who is who," teased a third.

Another fan, who was definitely totally cool about Mane leaving, said: "There’s only one legend here and he’s not even the scouser."
"Crazy how Trent leaving doesn’t hit as hard as when Suarez, Mane, Bobby, Coutinho, or Klopp left." Sure.
It wasn't all a Mane love-in, however.
"Mane leaving was much worse. He was jealous of Salah and he sneaked out," suggested another user.

"Of course Liverpool wanted to keep Trent that’s why they offered him multiple contracts. Mane wanted to leave so that’s why we sold him, we didn’t keep him just because he is a good player," noted another fan.
